If you’re craving a fresh look in the new year, let these popular interior design styles inspire your next home project.

Farmhouse

This is likely not a surprise to anyone who frequents social media (or, frankly, any media at all), but farmhouse style was the most popular design trend viewed on TikTok this year. Videos showcasing the trend have amassed a whopping 408 million views in the last 12 months. Farmhouse style is evocative of a warm, homely aesthetic and often features lots of white and cream interiors, shiplap in abundance, and farmhouse sinks.

Vintage

Vintage is having a moment, especially among the younger Gen Z set. Vintage home styles racked up 288 million views on TikTok in the last year, mostly around the hashtags #vintagedecor and #vintagehome. It’s easy to incorporate vintage elements into your home by sourcing unique items at thrift stores or antique shops that work with your personal aesthetic.

Boho

Derived from the word “bohemian,” Boho styles have generally reflected unconventional looks, with mix-and-match textures, prints, and colors defining the trend. It’s also TikTok’s third most popular home design style, with 242 million video views this year.

Maximalism

We’ve seen a lot of minimalist looks in the last few years, but trends are beginning to swing back towards more over-the-top spaces in the form of maximalism. Maximalism offers a way to layer your decor and bring bright, bold colors and textures to your space. The trend has seen 146 million views on TikTok in the past 12 months, with the hashtag #moodymaximalism seeing 22 million of those views.

Eclectic

Love a little bit of everything? Then you might be into eclectic decor styles, which had 145 million views on TikTok last year, mostly gathered under the #eclecticdecor hashtag. What is eclectic decor? It can mean a lot of things to different people, but it’s essentially decorating your home using bits and pieces of inspiration from different styles and genres that accentuate your personality. Mixed patterns, vintage decor, and unexpected items together are hallmarks of this style type.

Grandmillennial

Grandmillennial style falls somewhere between minimalism and maximalism, and incorporates bold prints, heirloom furniture, and mixed textures. It has been seen on the rise amongst people in their late 20s and 30s, and garnered 117 million views on TikTok in the last 12 months.

Wall paneling ideas are all the rage because they add just a bit of a unique flair to your home. TikTokers viewed paneling videos 68 million times this year, with many of those videos taking a DIY spin and showing viewers how to achieve the look on their own.

Rustic

Rustic decor leans heavily on natural elements and an “unfinished” appeal, giving this style more of a laid-back look. You’re also likely to see more paint colors inspired by nature with this style. Viewers on TikTok love this look, so much so that videos for rustic decor were viewed 58 million times.

Dopamine Decor

Also known as feel-good decor, the dopamine decor trend brings bright colors, brilliant patterns, and playful textures that just make you feel good. Users searching for dopamine decor inspiration viewed TikTok videos on the trend a record 47 million times.
